As we age we tend to produce less acid
As we get older, our bodies begin to slow down and our stomachs are no exception. As we age, Hydrochloric Acid production frequently declines, but remains important for the breakdown of food in the gut. Hydrochloric Acid has several different functions; for example it sterilises the ingested food, acidifies it, activates a powerful protease called Pepsin and allows vitamin B-12 to be extracted from foodstuffs. Following the above process, food then passes into the intestines, where it is further metabolised into the various nutrients. This supplement will help to replace some of the lost acidity in the stomach, thus aiding the digestion of food, and may be favoured by those who wish to ensure a sufficiency of Hydrochloric Acid.
Each tablet provides 324mg of betaine hydrochloride along with pepsin, an enzyme that breaks down proteins in food.
Dosage:
As a food supplement to aid protein digestion, 1 tablet with each main meal up to a maximum of 3 per day. Swallow the tablets whole.
Caution:
Do not take if peptic ulcers are present or suspected. Do not take if pregnant or breast feeding.
