Necessary for the mineral selenium
This sulphur containing essential amino acid has antioxidant properties and is necessary for the mineral selenium to be absorbed and utilised. Additionally, methionine can be a detoxifying agent assisting in the removal of certain heavy metals from the body.
L-methionine is a protein amino acid. It is classified as an essential amino acid for humans and therefore must be supplied in the diet. You must ingest it for survival. Methionine contributes to the formation of numerous important compounds in your body. This process is called "methylation" & deficient "methylation" is implicated in depression.
Methionine functions as a sulfur donor to aid in your body's detoxification processes and can also convert to other sulfur amino acids such as glutathione. It is a precursor to S-adenosyl methionine. Sunflower seeds are a good source of methionine. Diets which are deficient in methionine may result in destructive breakdown & metabolism of protein.
Methionine plays a key role in regulating folic acids availability. Methionine deficiency makes folic acid unusable thus inducing a build up of unusable folic acid. Allergic (high histamine) persons have a tendency to be methionine deficient. Because Methionine lowers blood histamine levels they may find the product to be of benefit.
L-Methionine is presented in its free-form for maximum absorption.
