AndroAMP is a blend of botanical ingredients whose actions synergestically combine to promote healthy testosterone/estrogen levels in men. Each capsule contains LongJax™ Tongkat ali extract, stinging nettle (Urtica dioca) root extract, beta sitosterol, myricetin and luteolin.
Tongkat ali extract has been used in Southeast Asia for centuries as an enhancer of male sex drive. Animal research has found Tongkat ali to have testosterone-like actions, and may increase testosterone levels.
Anecdotally, various men using Tongkat ali extract have reported laboratory-tested increases in their free T levels of 50 to 300 percent over a period of several to six months’ use.
Stinging nettle root extract has been shown to contain compounds that bind to SHBG, reducing the binding of testosterone to SHBG, and the binding of SHBG to prostate tissue. Beta sitosterol has been shown to inhibit 5 alpha-reductase, which converts testosterone to 5 hydroxytestosterone (5HT). 5HT may be an undesirable metabolite of testosterone. Beta sitosterol has also been used to treat benign prostatic hypertrophy, wherein 5HT is believed to play a negative role. Myricetin, a “cousin” of quercetin, which is much more bioavailable than quercetin, has also been shown to inhibit 5 alpha-reductase and 5HT activity.
Luteolin has been shown in vitro to be a strong inhibitor of aromatase. Apigenin, which differs from luteolin only be one oxygen atom, has also been shown to be a strong aromatase inhibitor. In vitro (test tube) activity often does not translate into in vivo (live animal) activity, especially in the case of flavonoids such as chrysin, due to “relatively poor absorption and/or bioavailability.” However, luteolin has been shown in human and animal studies to have excellent absorption and bioavailability, and to exert powerful protective effects, even at low doses. Thus, VRP’s new AndroAmp may provide an effective natural multimodal approach to enhancing free testosterone and decreasing estrogen and 5HT in andropausal men.
