Combat joint stiffness
Studies have already shown how the key active constituent, the curcumins, in turmeric can inhibit the compounds involved in the inflammatory response. Consequently, practitioners often combine turmeric with glucosamine sulphate to combat joint problems such as stiffness.
Turmeric has been used in connection with the following conditions and symptoms:
Digestive disorders
Curcumin one of the active ingredients in turmeric, induces the flow of bile, which breaks down fats. In an animal study extracts of turmeric root inhibited gastric secretion and protected against injuries caused by medications such as indomethacin and reserpine. Further studies are needed to confirm these effects in humans.
Arthritis
Curcumin is an anti-inflammatory agent that relieves the aches and pains associated with arthritis.
Cardiovascular conditions
Cancer
In lab animals Turmeric has shown to decrease symptoms of skin cancers and reduce the incidence of chemically caused breast cancer.
Bacterial infection
The herb's volatile oil functions as an external antibiotic, preventing bacterial infection in wounds.
